On May 23rd, the opening ceremony of the Second United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-2) was held in Nairobi, Kenya. A student delegation of Tongji University participated in activities related to UNEA-2 and had their voice heard internationally on behalf of students at Tongji University.

The four delegates were Liu Misha, Chang Cheng, Su Ying and Sun Guoqiang from the College of Environmental Science and Engineering and College of Transportation Engineering. During the assembly, the delegation attended multilateral conferences, shared their understanding and expectations of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, communicated with people from both government and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) from different countries, and strongly promoted UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (IESD) on sustainable development. Achim Steiner, UNEP Executive Director and the delegation from Chinese Ministry of Environment Protection met with Tongji students encouraged them to broaden their international horizon and keep track of the latest policy and technology development in sustainable development. They were expected to become future leaders by taking the lead in the sustainable development of society, environment and economy through enhancing their understanding of global environmental issues with their professional knowledge.
