On April 4th, Mr. FANG Shouen, vice party secretary general of Tongji University, met a delegation led by Mr. Francesco La Camera, director from Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea, Italy. During their visit to Tongji University, a meeting of the Steering Committee of Italian Ministry of the Environment - Tongji University was held to guide and plan current and future cooperative projects. Discussions were focused on the construction of Sino-Italian Center of Sustainable Development (Yunchou Building) and on assistance from the Italian Ministry of Environment to sustainable development of education at Tongji University.

During the meeting, Mr. FANG Shouen extended his warm welcome to Mr. La Camera and his delegation. He said that Tongji University would continue to follow the concept of green sustainability in constructing the Yunchou Building which had attracted attention of both China and Italy. A progress report, design concepts of green technology planning and Italian style architecture were presented by people from the Construction Section and Architectural Design and Research Institute, Tongji University. Prof. HE Pingjing from College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, introduced his fruitful cooperation with his Italian counterparts on solid waste disposal following years of communication with University of Padua and Venice International University on education of environmental sustainable development. Prof. GU Xianglin from College of Civil Engineering introduced a joint project on Restoration and Conservation of Historical Buildings between Tongji University and University of Bologna and expressed his wish to further strengthen the academic cooperation between Tongji’s civil engineering and Italian historical building conservation.

Mr. La Camera said he had full confidence in Tongji for the reconstruction of Yunchou Building, and proposed to make a joint statement to include common interests (on-going academic projects included) in the planning and development of the Sino-Italian Center of Sustainable Development.
