According to the sixth edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject released on March 22 by British Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), one of the world’s three most authoritative educational consulting agency that specializes in ranking universities around the globe, Tongji University ranked 22nd and 29th respectively in the world, and 2nd in China in Architecture, Built Environment and Civil & Structural Engineering; and ranked 34th in the world, and 3rd in Art and Design in China. Furthermore, Tongji University became top 400 for such subjects as Environmental Sciences (101-150), Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering (151-200), Medicine (301-350), Chemistry (301-350), Mathematics (301-350) and Computer Science & Information Systems (351-400).

The QS World University Rankings by Subject took into account record-breaking 42 subjects, making it the largest ever release of its kind. It turned out that 58 universities from the Chinese mainland ranked top 400, among which 7 universities top 50 by 65 subjects, with 26 subjects from Beijing University, 21 from Qinghua University, 9 from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, 4 from Fudan University, 3 from Tongji University, 1 from Zhejiang University and 1 from China Agricultural University.
