Shanghai International College of Design &Innovaton Approved by Ministry of Education

The Ministry of Education approved the establishment of a Sino-foreign college (a non-legal body) jointly run by Tongji University, China and Aalto University, Finland. The college named Shanghai International College of Design and Innovation, Tongji University eventually won the endorsement of MOE following years of strenuous efforts by Tongji University and strong support from the local Shanghai government.

Shanghai International College of D&I, Tongji University will be characterized by its “sustainable and interdisciplinary design and innovation” as requested by Tongji University. The two parties will join hands in producing high-level design and innovation talents tailored for the local economic and social development, and in creating a talent pool for more efficient implementation of China’s innovation-driven development strategy and for more balanced construction of world-class universities and academic disciplines. Tongji University hopes to make good use of this opportunity to attract good educational resources from abroad and nurture top-notch talents in D&I field, thus promoting the implementation of China’s development strategy at both national and local levels. The University also hopes to take this opportunity to explore a joint educational management system for further improvement of tertiary education comprehensive reform in China and to turn Shanghai International College of D&I, Tongji University into a pilot college for Shanghai and for the country.
