It has been a tradition and ceremony that Tongji students and staff attend a New Year's Eve concert for ringing out the Old Year and ringing in the New Year. On the evening of December 29, 2017 Yangpu District New Year Concert was staged at Tongji Park. Zhang Mingquan, a famous host, and, Wang Yongji, a conductor, together with the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra performed a New Year's concert for Tongji teachers and students. The concert was co-organized by the Shanghai Yangpu District People's Government, Tongji University Promotion Department and Yangpu District Cultural Bureau. More than 3,000 teachers and students went to the wonderful concert.

Philharmonic Orchestra has become a special sign for people who love music in the world. At present almost all orchestras in the name of Philharmonic in the world are of first-class, of which Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra is one.
