With the academic support from Tongji University, the 2015 Forum for Sustainable urban development in China was held recently in Beijing. To solve the universal problems of urban development, the research team from Tongji University, in cooperation with worldwide famous authorities, completed a report about sustainable urban development in China. This study, completed a thorough evaluation of the ecological input and human development, and investigate the sustainable urban development in China, presenting their investigating results to people in a systematic way, which was a pioneering exploration. According to the research report, the index of the 35 cities that was included in the range of study has been improved, compared with the one in 2014; and the overall outlook of the sustainable urban development in China is optimistic.

Leaded by the United Nations Development Program and the Oriental Outlook magazine of the Xinhua News Agency, the research team on sustainable urban development from Tongji University worked with some authorities from all over the world to conduct this research report. The report was mainly based on the results of the researches conducted by the team from Tongji University. The report is the first appraisal report for the sustainable urban development published in China, after the 193 UN member states agreed on the new 17 sustainable development goals in September. Based on the index system of the sustainable urban development in China, the report provided the models and methods for evaluating the sustainable urban development in China.
