Recently, Tongji University School of Medicine Accreditation of Teachers Capable of Teaching Fully in English as well as the Award Ceremony for the First Qualified Teachers was held in the conference hall of the Medical Building. Tongji University School of Medicine initiated the process of accreditation of teachers capable of teaching fully in English, in an effort to cultivate international talents, improve the capability of faculty of teaching fully in English, improve the teaching qualityand overall promote the cultivation of excellent doctors and professionals competent to teach clinical medicine fully in English. Candidates are incumbent faculty members at Tongji University who teach MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery) degree courses ranging from basic courses, core courses, to clinical training course and clinical practice course. The majority of the first accredited 108 teachers were directly recommended and endorsed by students studying for the MBBS degree.
Jiang Bo, Vice President of Tongji University, awarded the first accredited teachers certificates and extended congratulations to them. Besides, he referred to the different certification systems in the UK and the U.S., and acknowledged the effort the School of Medicine was making to follow international standards.. He praised the internationalization of the School of Medicine, he encouraged it to forge ahead, maintaining its efforts to enhance the overall strength of the faculty.
The accreditation of teachers capable of teaching fully in English is one of the major measures taken by Tongji University School of Medicine to accelerate its own internationalization, and is also a key part of serial activities in commemoration of the 15thanniversary ofits reestablishment The School of Medicine began to enroll international students majoring in clinical medicine to study under the guidance of teachers who delivered courses fully in English in 2011, and has continued such enrollment ever since.
