On Dec. 26th, 2015, the start-up and unveiling ceremony of the Shanghai Engineering Research Center for Dental Tissue Repair and Regeneration was held in the Affiliated Stomatology Hospital of Tongji University.
On the ceremony, academician Ge Junbo, Vice President of Tongji University, addressed the audience with a welcome speech. He said that he hoped that the construction of this engineering research center would foster interdisciplinary integration and apply research results into clinical practice in a better fashion to create a new Industry-University-Institute pathway. In this way, life quality and happiness index could be improved effectively.
Guo Minhao, Head of the Division Base of Shanghai Municipal Committee of Science and Technology, represented the committee and said: In order to create a new scientific center with global influence, the combined organizations of industry, university and institute such as the Shanghai Engineering Research Center for Dental Tissue Repair and Regeneration are in great need. Focusing on public security and livelihood, they can bring more benefits to the nation and the public by connecting innovation chains, industry chains and product chains.” He praised that the Engineering Center Technical Guidance Committee was an expert team at the international level, and he said to hope that this center could made top design in a better way on a new road characteristic of the combination of industry, university and institute and build such a strong team. He said: “By the end of three-year construction period, we are happy to admire a leading dental center combined with industry, university and institute.”
Professor Qiu Weiliu, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering also gave a speech, which expressed his total support for the industry-university-institute mode and branded the initiative as an innovation in stomatology. He believed the “bionic-regenerated-creative” mode would be a good way for the development of stomatology, and encouraged this center to make breakthroughs in bionic and regenerated fields for more wonders.
Professor Wang Zuolin, Dean of the Shanghai Engineering Research Center for Dental Tissue Repair and Regeneration made a report about current construction and the following research direction. This center would be dedicated to researches on, he said, new mouth implants and dental pulp regeneration and build implants with biological activity and more suitable for Chinese people. It would also concentrate on the regeneration of pulp tissues and recovery of the vitality and health of teeth. At the same time, industrial standards concerning implanting teeth and regenerating pulp were put forward and established, which could develop this industry in a more scientific and standard fashion to improve mouth health of the public.
It was emphasized that the Shanghai Engineering Research Center for Dental Tissue Repair and Regeneration is built for dental repair and regeneration as well as product promotion, which was approved by the Shanghai Municipal Committee of Science and Technology on August, 2015. It is the only medical engineering center amongst twenty other research centers supported by Shanghai government this year. The research will be based in the Affiliated Stomatology Hospital of Tongji University, a location that has made possible to fully take advantage of the university and professional resources and relevant enterprises. The Center will continue to make great efforts to study and develop new products and technologies in stomatology and to cultivate relevant talents. This industry-university-institute platform have been built to apply research results into practice and to realize quality measure control, product promotion and market development so as to form a brand new mode for industrialization of research results in stomatology.
