On-campus Job Fair for 2016 Graduates Was Held

The 2016 on-campus job fair was held at Tongji University at the stadium of south campus on November 6thand 7th. A total of 409 companies participated in this two-day job fair, providing thousands of different types of positions which demand no less than 8244 employees. Many students flocked to attend this job fair, totaling nearly 15,000 people within two days.

The companies that participated in the job fair covered a broad range of industries, these included civil engineering, real estate, machinery manufacturing, automotive, transportation, information technology and energy, which is the dominant discipline of Tongji University; Furthermore, there were companies from other industries that participated in this job fair, including e-commerce, internet, biotechnology, medical treatment, bank, education, exhibition and media. Among them, companies including Shanghai Yangpu Talent Market, Shanghai Caohejing Hi-Tech Park, Shanghai Donghao Human Resources Ltd., Shanghai Urban Construction Group, Shanghai Construction Group, and Industry Management Office and Technology Park of Tongji University came together to recruit talents. The on-campus job fair remained so busy, that due to site limitation, hundreds of companies didn’t get the chance to be part of it. The Graduate Employment Guidance Center would make the proper coordination and arrangement to meet the recruitment demands of companies, and effectively cultivate students fit in with the market's demand.

At 9 a.m. on November 6th, students entered the fair in an orderly fashion. From the past over 60% of the graduates who are searched for information about their job perspective unfortunately many have expressed their negative views about their employment situation this year alone. But in recent years, graduates tend to be more mature and rational when searching for employment in their field.

During the early morning of November 7th, Xu Jianping, the deputy secretary of the CPC committee of Tongji University, and director of the graduate department of the committee attended the job fair to obtain additional details about the situation of students’ employment seeking and the recruitment of companies.

To cope with the changing employment situation, Tongji University sticks to the principle of “early start, plan and implementation”, making all the efforts to carry through the employment work. According to the spirit of the latest documents of education ministry and Tongji University’s strategic objective of talent training, Tongji University’s method of student employment guidance has become more professional, individualized and diverse, as embodied by the fact that the university now focuses more on the improvement of the quality of employment as well as the growth of the students and will enhance its collaboration with other departments. Based on this new working principle and the plentiful research results of demand, the job fair held by Tongji University this year has made breakthroughs in quantity, form and type.

According to various resources, approximately 315 companies have registered on the career center website of Tongji University for holding promotion session. Up until November 8th, 2015, Tongji University has held 249 on-campus promotion sessions, when compared to last year alone.
