The magnificent Himalaya is the birthplace of the brilliant plateau nation and its rich culture. When the gorgeous Tibetan dance was presented amid the melodious and heroic songs, teachers and students enjoyed an amazing and natural picture of charming Tibet, a snow area full of sunlight.

Large-scale folk song and dance performances by the Song and Dance Troupe of Tibet Autonomous Region were staged at the university auditorium on Siping Campus of Tongji University on the evening of October 28th, Ma Jinming, Vice Party Secretary of Tongji University and guests from Culture Department of Tibet Autonomous Region and the Organizing Committee of the Shanghai International Arts Festival of China enjoyed the performances together with as nearly 2000 teachers and students of the university.



The performances, were sponsored by the Organizing Committee of the China Shanghai International Art Festival, Shanghai Municipal Government and People’s Government of Tibet Autonomous Region. The event was hosted by the Organizing Committee of Tongji University and is an important program presented by the song and dance troupe of Tibet Autonomous Region which were invited to attend the China Shanghai International Art Festival for the celebration of the 50thanniversary since the establishment of Tibet Autonomous Region. After four Tibetan dancers went into the hall with Tibetan horns on their shoulders, the dance of Snow Mountain Melody marked the beginning of the show. Then Miniozon, a young famous singer in Tibet, not only impressed the audience with the song of theSnow Mountain Where I Grew up, but also sang the well-known song of Way to Heaven in her own style, which made evident her extraordinary singing skills. The Heavenly Lake dance, inspired by the circle dance "Xie Qin" in the Bange pasture area in northern Tibet, brought the show yet to another climax, which presented the whole picture of the dancing scene of the young women and men in the cold highland in northern Tibet.
All the 15 various programs, representing different regions of Tibet, were rich of their unique national characteristics. By combining the artistic expression of freehand and realism, the programs showed snow mountains, grasslands, rivers, lakes and forests which implicated the landscape, and customs of the highland as well as their respect for life, love and belief. The show was truly a rare display of unique music, dance, costumes, musical instruments and melodies.




Founded in 1958, the song and dance troupe of Tibet is also the only provincial level artistic team of Tibet and is made up of a majority of Tibet minority with representatives from other nationalities such as Han, Hui, Luoba, Zhuang, Menba and Naxi. For a long time, the team mainly performs singing and dancing and has produced famous singers like Tseten Dolma and dancers like Senior Tsering Dhondup. The troupe played a significant role in both the Tibet Week in 17thShanghai International Arts Festival and the Arts Festival in 2015 of Tongji University. The artists were proud to perform during the celebration for the 50thanniversary of Tibet Autonomous Region.
Some students from Tibet were also invited to watch the performances.
