The 20^thAnniversary of partnership between Tongji University and Technische Universität Berlin was celebrated in Zonghe Lou, Siping Road Campus on the morning of 24^thSept.. A 14-person delegation including Prof. Thomsen, president of Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin), visited the university and joined the celebration activities. More than 60 Chinese and German students and teachers from different schools of Tongji University including Sino-German College for Graduate Studies and the College of Architecture and Urban Planning attended the celebration.

President PEI Gang, on behalf of Tongji University, gave a welcoming speech at the beginning of the celebration. He spoke high of the collaboration between Tongji University and Technische Universität Berlin in the past 20 years. He mentioned that though what we had achieved was worth feeling proud of, what we were to achieve in the next 20 years was more important. He hoped that the two universities would enhance their cooperation to produce more talents with sense of social responsibilities and make contributions to the sustainable development in the world. Prof. Thomsen mentioned in his speech that he believed the cooperation between the two universities would surely be strengthened in the future which would be full of challenges, for they could be turned into opportunities. In the end, President PEI and President Thomsm renewed the agreements of cooperation between the two universities and the double degree program in urban design.

A presentation of Technische Universität Berlin and study reports by exchange students from both universities were held on the morning of the same day. Both Tongji students back from TU Berlin and TU Berlin students at Tongji talked about their achievements from the double-degree program, their experiences of the cultural shocks and the touching moments in their life during their stay at the partner universities. All this added value to the partnership between the two universities. In the afternoon, professors from Technische Universität Berlin talked with professors from Tongji University about further cooperation in academic research and course development, which laid a solid foundation for the further development between the two universities.

The first agreement of cooperation between Tongji University and Technische Universität Berlin was signed in 1995. In the past 20 years, both universities had cooperations in a number of fields including architecture and urban planning, economics and management,transportation engineering, and mechanical engineering. In April of 2011 and June of 2012, Technische Universität Berlin Day and Tongji University Day were celebrated in Shanghai and Berlin respectively.
