On May 29th, the School Civilization Office, Assets Department, Youth Corps Committee, the Red Cross, the School Hospital, and the School of Medicine held a rally on both the Siping and Jiading campus with the theme: "Smokeless Tongji—You and Me.” MA Jinming, Vice secretary of the party, certificate the award for the smoking ban. Xu Jianping, School Party Secretary, delivered a speech. Officials from the various organizations noted above attended the activities.

MA Jinming, Vice Secretary of the Party, led more than 50 volunteers on behalf of teachers and students. They separated into five paths: starting from Yifu Building along with South Avenue, South Building, library (school canteen), the Cherry Avenue, and the North Avenue and walked to the South Square of Medical School, picking up cigarette butts and other rubbish that was littered along both sides of the roads and green belts. They said “No” to tobacco with their practical actions. Many teachers and classmates were impressed by the behavior of the volunteers, so they also took part in the activity.

Youth teachers launched a petition to all teachers and students, hoping that the Tongji people will know the harm of smoking; advocate for a healthy lifestyle; maintain a good image; and try to be tobacco avoidance role models. They participated in sharing non-smoking propaganda that focuses on building a smoke-free campus. These outstanding volunteers, in the tobacco free campus activities, were awarded the title of Anti-Smoking Envoys during the rally.

At two campuses of the rally, by means of "lung pathological mechanism" explanation, using a small smoking knowledge quiz and propaganda information, the volunteers popularized knowledge of smoking hazards. It is said by the students that they should begin by refusing to use tobacco themselves and then to promote civilization by building a green, non-smoking campuses.
