On the morning of May 12, the 43rdSports Meeting of Tongji University was inaugurated simultaneously on the Siping Road and the Jiading Campuses. Leaders of the university: CHEN Yiyi, MA Jinming, WU Jiang, FANG Shouen, XU Jianping, and LYU Peiming attended the opening ceremony.
The atmosphere of the opening ceremony was happy and energetic. Dragon dancing and lion dancing, martial arts, and calisthenics were staged at the stadium of Siping Road Campus. The students from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering, who won the first prize in the calisthenics competition last year, danced to the songLittle Apple, which aroused cheers and applause for their excellent performance. Finally, all the faculty and students did aerobics under the direction of their coaches.
Besides the official events of the sports meeting, fun games were held by the Physical Education Department, the Labor Union and the Committee of CYL. The events include orienteering, beating drums and balls, writing together with one pen, hopping, and tug-of-war. Sports games of soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis, badminton, swimming and rock climbing were also high popularity among faculty and students.
After the opening ceremony on the Jiading Campus, Prof. MA Jinming, together with thousands of faculty and students, took part in the healthy running activity around the Jiading Campus. Then, the dragon boat regatta was launched on the Tongzhou River. The opening ceremonies included presenting awards won in the Tongtong Running Activity and the inauguration of the runner’s WeChat Group.
Sixteen teams from the schools on the Jiading Campus, the School of Civil Engineering on the Siping Road Campus, faculty and staff representatives, foreign students, the Logistics Group, and Waigang Town of Jiading District participated in the dragon boat regatta this year. The tough competition and the tenacious struggles of the competitors embodied the Spirit of Tongji. Eventually, the teams of the Logistics Group, of foreign students, of the School of Automobile Engineering and of the School of Civil Engineering won the top four rankings. In the afternoon, official events were held at the stadium and the 6 x 2000 meters relay race was held on the Lizhuang Road.
