May 29, 2015

On April 27th, at the invitation of the Confucius Institute inJ.F. Oberlin University, five chefs from Logistic Group of Tongji University along with teachers from International Cultural Exchange School went to Japan to hold Tongji University Food Festival.

On the afternoon of April 27th, our delegation immediately began to work after arriving in Tokyo. They directly went to the school canteen to know things well about food material procurement, site arrangement and kitchen equipment. Besides, they discussed some details of Food Festival with J. F. Oberlin University. In the evening, the Confucius Institute in J. F. Oberlin University held a grand welcome ceremony to express the warm welcome on our arrival.

Around 5 o’clock on the morning of April 28th, our chefs became busy. J. F. Oberlin University worried that there would not be enough seats during peak meal time, so they temporarily suggested us to cook 80 snacks around 9 o’clock, which would be delivered to several points of sale at school. Finally the chefs orderly cooked the 80 snacks on time with their special cooking skills and talents. At 11 o’clock a.m., Tongji University Food Festival was officially open to teachers and students in the canteen of J. F. Oberlin University. They prepared altogether 150 dishes of Sichuan noodles with peppery sauce, 180 dishes of saluted shredded pork in sweet bean sauce, scrambled egg with cucumber and agaric, pearl meat ball and shepherd's purse and shredded meat Tofu soup. Although Japanese diet culture advocates light food, we still underestimated Japanese teachers and students’ enthusiasm towards China food. They all enjoyed the food with relish, which even attracted the school officials to come to taste. An overseas student from Sichuan Province said that the perfect combination of Sichuan noodles with peppery sauce and shepherd's purse and shredded meat Tofu soup definitely held on the reputation of “eating in Tongji University”.

In order to satisfy more teachers and students, chefs added extra 80 snacks the next day. Chefs of Tongji University impressed teachers and students with their meticulous working attitudes, enthusiastic service and focused expression. With the common planning and efforts of the Confucius Institute in J. F. Oberlin University and Logistic Group of Tongji University, Tongji University Food Festival achieved a great success, which was well received by Japanese teachers and students.
