Professor Bofeng Li Was Recognized As the Shanghai Outstanding Youth Station Expert

On the afternoon of April 2nd, the 13thsession of Shanghai Outstanding Youth Station Expert accreditation council ended in the Municipal Corporation. Professor Bofeng Li from the Mapping and Geographic Information College was the finalist of Youth Millennium Program launched by Central Organization Department; he was recognized as Shanghai Outstanding Youth Station Expert.

Professor Bofeng Li is an outstanding youth delegate cultivated by Tongji University. He received his undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees in Tongji University from September, 2001 to March, 2010. He visited and studied in Australia’s Queensland University of Technology from November, 2007 to January, 2010. Then he received his post-doctoral degree in Australia’s Curtin University in April, 2013. In 2013, he was selected to participate in the Youth Millennium Program launched by Central Organization Department. He is currently a professor and assistant to the dean in the Mapping and Geographic Information College of Tongji University. Since 2007, he has published more than 90 papers, including 35/40 SCI/EI papers and one academic monograph. He has also received more than 20 awards including American ION GNSS Best Paper Award, Shanghai Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award, National Excellent 100 Doctoral Dissertation Award Nomination, the first prize of the National Mapping Scientific and Technological Progress and the second prize of the Young Teachers Teaching Competition of Tongji University. Now he acts as the president of International Geodetic Survey Working Team and as a committee member of International Chinese Satellite Navigation Association.

The selection activity of Shanghai Youth Station Expert is launched jointly by nine units including the Central Organization Department, Labor Union and Human Resources and Social Security Bureau. It emphasizes professional skills and innovation capacity, which is the general goal of Shanghai economic construction and urban development groups. The focus is on developing youth human resources in order to honor young talents who have made great contributions to the development of Shanghai’s economy and society. During this session, the Central Organization Department received 430 pieces of application materials. There were 25 candidates left after the first round vote of the organizing committee and then the 10 outstanding finalists were selected by an on-site assessment. On the scene of the on-site assessment, the 25 candidates from various fields such as aerospace, finance, police, education, medical care, aircraft manufacturing and scientific technology gathered together. They vividly demonstrated their achievements and experiences, which constantly aroused applause.

In the section of spot Q&A, Professor Bofeng Li elaborated on the aspects of his growth experiences, solid scientific research, dedicated teaching and social service. He pointed out that one should abandon fickleness and make every effort to pursue innovation in the field of scientific research and to bring forth the new through the old in the field of teaching. He also expressed his vision to cultivate professional elite pillars of society. He encouraged young people to equip themselves with not only the work skills of living on the ground, but also the social feeling of looking upon the starry sky. Consequently, he gained acceptance from the expert judges who chose him as Shanghai Outstanding Youth Station Expert.
