“On the Road,” is a Fumei Exhibition of Tongji Students’ European Urban Scenery Paintings and a Charity Auction. It was co-hosted by the School of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University. The Fumei Special Fund of the Shanghai Oversea Chinese Foundation and Shenyuan Space Design was held in the Shanghai CITIC Plaza recently.
This event was one of a series of activities of the Fumei Overseas Artistic Practice Fund for Tongji Students. Since 2012, Mr. GAO Qi and Mr. YANG Litian, alumni of Tongji University, have been fundingtheSchool of Architecture and Urban Planning’s annual Activity of Artistic Practice in Urban Europe. The 104 paintings on display were painted by teachers and students from the School of Architecture and Urban Planning. They traveled in Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland to observe the features of those cities and then, from their own perspectives, painted many high-quality paintings with the inspiration they received from their experiences in Europe. Twenty-seven paintings were sold on the first day of the exhibition, including two paintings bought by an outside couple. Many alumni and alumnae of the School of Architecture and Urban Planning came especially to buy the paintings in order to support their Alma Mater.
The charity auction was held on the afternoon of March 15th. The atmosphere during the sale and auction was warm and exciting, with several guests actively participating. A painting of XU Difei, a student from the major of architecture--class of 2008, sold for 60,000 yuan. As of now, the activity has raised nearly 350,000 yuan. The proceeds from the auction will be used as the special fund for the Activity of Artistic Practice in Urban Europe in the year of 2017-2018.

The significance of the exhibition and auction lies in the fact that they provided the beneficiaries artistic practice and the opportunity to donate their works to raise funds for the activity. The transformation of the role they played embodied the charitable idea of passing on the public spirit.
