January 26, 2015

The University Cooperative Research Group of The Yangtze River Water Environment, which is led by our university, has gained remarkable achievements since it was established eleven years ago. An official of the School of Environment of our university said, “The ecological and environmental protection of water resources of the Yangtze River basin has made three historical transformations under the collaborative efforts of the relevant ministries of the state, of provinces in the Yangtze River basin, and of cooperative universities. These transformations include the reduction of soil erosion in the Yangtze River basin, the harmonization of the relationship between the inhabitants and water resources along the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River, and the general improvement of the water quality of the Yangtze River.”

The cooperative research group meets once a year for an in-depth discussion about current problems. After more than ten years of unremitting efforts, it has conducted a systematic and thorough study of the Yangtze River water environment, completed a large number of studies, and used the results of these studies to provide reliable support to the ecological restoration of Yangtze River. However, it should be noted that some local governments are still inclined to develop their economies at the expense of environment, so there’s a long way to go to apply the research results in social practice. “It is our mission to do research for the transformation of China’s economic growth mode,” explained scholars from the School of Environment of our university.
