“Elegant, wonderful, advocating virtue and art, harmonious and innovative,” are words that describe the Closing Ceremony of Art Festival 2014 and the New Year’s Concert of Tongji University. The Closing Ceremony was held in the auditorium on the evening of December 23rd.

The concert began with theDie Fledrmaus Overturecomposed by Johann Strauss. Beautiful Night, Pomp and Circumstance, Oberon, Polk Suite, Swan Lakeand other classical orchestral musical compositions that were performed by the Students’ Orchestra and conducted by Mr. ZHANG Xiaoping from Department of Music. Teachers WANG Liqin, LI Wei, YI Ningyan, and WANG Yida from School of Arts and Media, LI Shubei from School of Architecture and Urban Planning, DAI Yun from School of Online and Continuing Education, and alumnus WU Yiqun and student QIN Lu voiced their pursuit of art and love of our motherland through singing songs such asSong of Laughter, China My Kindly Mother, For Art For Love, Follow You, I Love My China, and theDrinking Song. The audience burst into thunderous applause to express their excitement and appreciation. The concert ended withOde to Joycollaboratively performed by the Students’ Chorus and Students’ Orchestra.

For the purpose of celebrating high art and prospering mass culture, the Art Festival of Tongji University 2014 staged about sixty shows over three months, which attracted an audience of more than 40,000 people. This year’s festival held a performance in the Shanghai Grand Theater for the first time and opened some of its activities to neighboring communities and universities. It gained wide attention from both inside and outside of the university as it enriched the cultural activity of teachers and students and promoted the artistic atmosphere of the university.
