On December 23rd, LU Guoqiang, Inspector and Vice Director of the Cadre Bureau Three of the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, announced in a general meeting held in the lecture hall of the Shaw Building that the Central Committee of the CPC appointed YANG Xianjin as Party Secretary of Tongji University—with the ranking of Vice Minister.
DU Yubo, Deputy Party Secretary and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education, and XU Zezhou, Member of the Standing Committee and Minister of the Organization of Municipal Committee of Shanghai attended the meeting and delivered speeches. WEI Shiqiang, Vice Director of the Personnel Division of Ministry of Education, CHEN Hao, Vice Minister of the Organization of Municipal Committee of Shanghai, YU Lijuan, Deputy Party Secretary of Shanghai in charge of educational and medical affairs, and related leaders from the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC, Ministry of Education, Organization Department of Municipal Committee of Shanghai, and the Shanghai Municipal Committee in charge of educational and medical affairs also participated the meeting. The meeting was hosted by President PEI Gang of Tongji University.
About 300 people attended the meeting, including university leadership, Party Committee members, members of the Discipline Inspection Commission, middle-level cadres, responsible persons of the Democratic Parties, responsible persons of mass organizations, members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, some representatives from Teacher’s Representative Committee, representatives of teachers and representatives of retirees of Tongji University.
YANG Xianjin, PhD, professor and doctoral supervisor, was born in Gaochun, Jiangsu Province, in December of 1962. He joined the Communist Party of China in June of 1985. YANG had been teaching, researching and performing administrative work in Tianjin University since July of 1984. He was promoted to professor in 1998 and successively held the posts of Dean of the School of Material Science and Engineering, Deputy Party Secretary of Tianjin University, and Executive Deputy Party Secretary of the university. He was Party Secretary of East China University of Science and Technology from November 2011 to December 2014, and started his current assignment as Party Secretary of Tongji University in December 2014.
