President Pei Visited Finland

During November 19 to 22, President Pei Gang visited Aalto University, signed the Cooperation agreements between Tongji University and Aalto University, attended the open ceremony of Tongji Lounge in Aalto, met Mr. Jukka Mäkelä, Mayor of Espoo, discussing the possibility of improving Sino-Finnish cooperation with multiple partners.

On Novermber 20th, President Pei Gang and President Tuula Teeri signed Cooperation Agreement between Aalto University, Finland and Tongji University, PRC and Cooperation Agreement between Aalto University, Finland and Tongji University, PRC for the Activities of Sino-Finnish Centre at Tongji University. The two overarching broad themes for collaboration between Aalto and Tongji are sustainable development and new business creation. SFC will serve as platform for cooperative projects (teaching and education, research and societal interaction) between the two Parties, other universities and enterprises from China, Finland and other countries.

On the same day, Pei Gang and Tuula Teeri inaugurated for Tongji Lounge which is an international communication platform of Tongji University in Aalto University. Tuula Teeri said that Tongji Lounge showed Tongji University’s importance to Aalto University, and it would further promote deeper collaboration between two universities. Pei Gang wished Tongji Lounge would perform as Sino-Finnish Centre in Tongji, providing home for Tongji and Chinese students, as well as promoting Chinese culture in Finland.

On November 21st, Pei Gang met with Mr. Jukka Mäkelä. Mayor of Espoo. Pei Gang introduced the latest cooperation between Tongji and Aalto, especially new plan for the cooperation after Mayor Yang Xiong visiting Espoo last year. Tongji and Aalto will continue enhancing the education and research collaboration as strategic partners. Both sides will focus their research, education and other cooperation activities under the overarching broad themes of sustainable development and new business creation making full use of cooperation between Espoo-Shanghai sister cities. Jukka Mäkelä expressed that he would fully support the cooperation between two universities as alumnus of Aalto University and the demand side of future talents.

Before leaving, Pei Gang also visited Tongji exchange students in Finland.
