“Jiahong Cup” Chinese Chess Competition of Shanghai Universities held in Tongji

"Jiahong Cup" Chinese Chess Competition of Universities in Shanghai, hosted by the Youth League and Association of Student Clubs, Tongji University with sponsorship from Shanghai Sports Management Center of Chess and Cards, was held in the Sino-French Center of our university on November 15, 2014.

Thirty six players from Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Shanghai International Studies University, Shanghai Jianqiao College and Tongji University took part in the competition. Each team consisted of 5 male and 1 female players. The competition adopted a single round robin system by which the team with most score points won the game after 5 rounds of competition.

On November 19, the final of this competition will be held simultaneously with Shanghai Contest of National Chinese Chess Premier League along with the awarding ceremony in a gymnasium of South Campus, Tongji University. Fourteen chess champions and Grandmasters including Mr. Ronghua HU, and nearly a hundred top players from 14 National Chinese Chess Premier League teams will gather at Tongji to stage fierce competitions.

Chinese chess, with clear demarcation lines and sharp divisions, is a traditional chess game of a long history and popular among Chinese people. By hosting the Chinese chess competitions, the university endeavors to expand the influence of Chinese chess among students so that traditional Chinese culture can be better inherited and developed.
