The List of Collaborative Innovation Centers 2011 for 2014 was announced on October 21st, 2014. Twenty four collaborative innovation centers across the country were added to the list, including theCollaborative Innovation Center of Intelligent New EnergyCars led by Tongji University in collaboration with universities at home and abroad, large enterprises and research institutes.

The establishment of Collaborative Innovation Center of Intelligent New Energy Cars was initiated by Tongji University to respond to and implement the national development plan of energy saving and new energy automobile industry with the participation of Qinghua University, Hunan University, Tianjin University, State Information Center, SAIC, Weichai Power, China Electronics Technology Group and the Electric Automobile Research and Development Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences. The center is committed to solving core generic technological problems in the development of intelligent new energy automobile industry and to cultivating innovative personnel. The multi-disciplinary, multi-team and multi-technology integrated center will form an integrated innovation model among industry, research and application, and provide sustainable guidance and support to the innovation drive and transformation development of Chinese automobile industry, as well as to the innovative-personnel cultivation for automobile and transportation.
The Collaborative Innovation Center of Intelligent New Energy Cars is of great significance for implementing the major national strategy and satisfying the needs of the automobile sector and enterprises. Prof. Zhuoping YU, assistant President of Tongji University, dean of the School of Automobile Engineering of the university and director of the Collaborative Innovation Center of Intelligent New Energy Cars, said the development of intelligent new energy cars characterized by distinctive features of multi-technology integration and systematic engineering is faced with key technological problems in three related fields of electric power, intelligent security and car integration. In order to support the technological innovation of the industry and to meet demands for professionals, the present R&D model has to undergo reform to enhance collaborative innovation between industry and universities and among universities.
