Minister of Environmental Protection of China met Tongji Students in UNEA

Thursday morning Mr. Zhou Shengxian, minister of environmental protection of China, came to visit the booth of Tongji University in United Nation Environmental Assembly. Mr. Zhou had a profound conversation with Prof. Li Fengting Vice dean of IESD and Tongji University about the role of the University on various issues including south-south cooperation, sustainable development, and green campus. As Honorary Professor of IESD, Mr. Zhou, also had discussed with the six student observers of Tongji University and he acknowledged their presence on this crucial assembly. He noted that Tongji University should take good advantage of this kind of assembly to widen its cooperation and communication on sustainable development practices.On the meantime, High-level Segment opened by in the presence of his Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, President of Kenya, Prince Albert Ⅱ of Monaco and Achim Stenier, Executive Director of UNEP. On their speech they vowed unequivocally on issues which must get attention including marine pollution, illegal wildlife trade, and unsustainable urbanization. The executive director gave a policy and scientific intervention on current state of the environment. Moreover, Tongji students had a brief meeting with Achim Stenier and expressed their appreciation for his contribution in the UNEP. During the meeting, they invited him to visit Tongji University in the near future.
