Tong+DICE will run from 6th June until 30th June 2014 at Tongji University College of Design and Innovation. 105 graduates of Digital Media, Industrial Design, Communication Design, and Environmental Design (DICE) will present models, drawings, videos, and ideas to exhibit their individual perspectives and reflect on design, life, and social environments. The theme of this show is the collaborative spirit of the College of Design and Innovation through design, concepts, and methodology that portray the personality and diversity of its students. In Chinese, DICE signifies life is filled with a variety of possibilities and students must possess the courage to create their own adventure and meaning in life. It also stays true to the spirit of Determination, Innovation, Creativity, and Evolution intrinsic to Tongji University College of Design and Innovation.

The question, “If…isn’t it?” is the driving force of the exhibition, which is inspired by three parts of the College’s foundation: IF (INNOVATION), IS (INTERACTION), IT (INSPIRATION). The aim is to create a dialogue between society and their individual selves, who are today’s new, young generation of designers. The students’ projects incorporate social issues that weigh on current design status and rethink design values and social responsibility. Two questions will be addressed: “Which social issue is reflected in the project?” and “Which design problem have you solved?” To answer these questions reveals a balance of critical thinking and professionalism.

This show exhibits an array of proposals within the ranges of digital media, communication, industrial, and environmental design. 9 digital media design projects including motion graphic design, interactive installations, interaction, and new media performance. Traditional elements, branding, user interface, city transport, and green spaces are demonstrated in 13 communication design projects. 50 industrial design projects include medical design and healthcare, ergonomic systems and humanity, transportation and mobility, digital-eco spaces and community, eco-digital products, renewable design, and experimental innovation. 33 environmental design projects are presented in relation to service and environment, ecological landscaping, interior design, environmental interaction and experience relating to urban-rural interaction, and medical care environments and public space.
