Dec. 13th, Sino-Finnish Centre held SFC LED lab 6-hour workshop. Students from College of Design and Innovation, College of Environment, College of Architecture and Urban Planning participated in the workshop. Different from other workshops, participants shall finish their work in 6 hours, which originated from PD6 of Aalto University.
PD6 means Product Development in 6 hours, which is a new teaching method for meeting the demand of innovative design project of Aalto Design Factory. This project will be completed in 6 hours by co-working students, creating breakthrough in conceptual proposal and prototype design. SFC LED lab 6-hour workshop drew lessons from PD6, aiming at trying the experiment of localization of PD6.
This 6-hour workshop pays attention to hands-on and expression ability. Participants shall make prototypes to show others their ideas. Team members used to act in a play to show how to use their products, which not only helps them improve their expression skills but also make them better understood.

Time will be extremely limited and well used. Tutors will set two checkpoints to check team members’ working progress, and there will be little time to have lunch or rest, since we only have 6 hours to finish the whole project! This kind of high intensity workshop proved to be very helpful for efficiency improving and ideas popping up.
In this workshop, students and five designers from four LDE companies were divided into four groups, taking charge of design for Sauna, Cottage and Bamboo, Sky and lobby of Sino-Finnish Centre separately.

Students and designers got to know each other and shared their own knowledge of design in 6 hours, and they also managed to make the prototype and get well prepared for the final presentation.

We invited several specialists in LED industry to attend the final presentation. They gave team members enlightening advices and suggestions from professional perspective. The design for Sauna won most praise. Students and designers all regarded this workshop worth attending for the quick absorbing of new information.
Later Sino-Finnish Centre will bring the result of the 6-hour workshop into reality, please look forward to a brand new Sino-Finnish Centre co-created by students and designers!
