First Pedagogical Symposium was Held in Tongji University

With the rapid development of globalization and internationalization of education, how should university teachers cope with the challenge of cross-culture education nowadays?On November 14 and 15, Tongji University and Aalto University coheld the first International Symposium on Pedgogical Research in Tongji University. University teachers, pedagogical experts and representitives of teaching management systems from China, Finland, Russia, Canada and Australia attended the symposium to discuss about innovative pedagogy research and pratice.

Prof. Lu Jing, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Education Commission addressed speech. He mentioned that pedagogy research was the most significant issue in the education reform process. It’s very necessary to hold this symposium, which helps us learn advanced educational ideas and talent training mode from other , further promoting to the training of internationalized talent in China.

Prof. Chen Yiyi, Vice President of Tongji University launched a lecture named by “Moocs: Challenge and Opportunity”. He pointed out that universities and colleges should face the challenge of Mooc’s development; to realize the aim of learning efficiently, university teachers should stimulate students’ interest and focus on ability training of students.

Prof. Martti Raevaara, Vice President of Aalto University gave a lecture named”Rethinking Innovation of Learning, Teaching and Education”, introducing the exploration and practice in the field of commerce, technology and art teaching mode of Aalto University, which is a university co-constructed by three universities more than 100 years and committed to innovation.

Prof. Wu Jiang, Vice President of Tongji University indicated that Pedagogy Symposium was the deepen process of Sino-Finnish Pedagogical Training Program co-developed by Tongji University and Aalto University. This will not only show the two-year cooperation results but also promote the communication among teachers from all over the world, thus improving teaching quality.

Sino-Finnish Pedagogical Training Program, initiating in April 2011, is cooperation between Tongji University and Aalto University, aiming at learning from Aalto University’s teaching experience and methods for students from different cultural backgrounds. The training program will enormously push forward the implementation of the cultivation strategy for international talents and foster excellent talents through brand-new teaching philosophies and methodologies. Four groups of Aalto teachers have come to Tongji for training, and 40 teachers from Tongji have gone to Aalto for deeper communication.

Human Resource Office of Tongji University will elect excellent courses to be model courses, ensuring more teachers benifit from pedagogical training.
