Tongji University welcomed a special guest, alumni Chen Jiade with her family from Taiwan recently.
Born in 1924, the old lady Chen Jiade is 90 years old now, she was very exciting when she came back to alma mater after 60 years. She told us that in September 1942 she was admitted to the affiliated high school of Tongji University, from Leshan to Chongqing, shipping to Yibin Lizhuang, later admitted to the Tongji University. As a freshman in Tongji, the Anti Japanese War won, she went back to her hometown Ru’an in October 1946, then went to study in the medical school of Tongji University in Shanghai. During the old year in Lizhuang, study life was very difficult, the classrooms were set in temple, but many talented people came out at that time. She clearly remembers that the academician Wu Mengchao is two years her senior. Students and local people helped each other in Lizhuang, feeling like the family, these old memories in Tongji will always remain in the old lady’s mind.
Looking at the pictures of old people and places in the gallery of Tongji University History, the old lady burst into tears slightly. When she stepped up to a yellowed sheet of music score, she cannot help humming up. It is the 1927 edition of Tongji University’s anthem.
After the visit of the gallery of Tongji University History, the old lady Chen Jiade went to the Alumni Association and muttered “I’m coming home, I’m coming home” as if deeply moved. The Alumni Association presented “old alumni commemorative badge”, hand-painted handkerchief of “Tongji Impression” and “Tongjiers” magazine to her. The old lady was so happy and grinning from ear to ear, and both she and her family felt warm in her alma mater Tongji University by such a warm welcome and hospitality.
