On September 5, 2013, Mr. Lu Yongxiang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, former member of the CPC Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the National People’s Congress visited Tongji University for innovative design investigation, with experts from Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society. Prof. Wu Zhiqiang, Vice President of Tongji University, Prof. Lou Yongqi, Dean of Design and Innovation College, Executive Vice Director of Sino Finnish Centre, Wu Guoxin, Secretary of general Party branch of Design and Innovation College, Guan Yuanfa, Broad Chairman of Knowledge and Innovation Investment Co. Ltd accompanied.

Mr. Lu came to the Tongji Architectural Design (Group) Co. Ltd., Vice President, Wu Zhiqiang introduced the “Around Tongji” knowledge and economic circle and the concept and development process of Shanghai International Design Field. Subsequently, Mr. Lu visited Design and Innovation College. He was introduced the establishment background of the college, subject characteristics and development priorities by Prof. Lou Yongqi. Then Mr. Lu visited the interactive media lab and open manufacturing lab of Design and Innovation College. Mr. Lu applauded the approach of Design and Innovation College that realizing the innovative international cooperation between college and companies while remaining Tongji features.

At last, Mr. Lu visited Sino Finnish Centre, Tongji Entrepreneur Valley and Teaching Practice Centre. Vice Deputy Secretary of the Communist Youth League, Tongji University, Mr. Liu Run, introduced that Entrepreneur Valley was doing the “last mile” innovation project. Prof. Lou Yongqi describes the innovative operation of Sino Finnish Centre. Sino Finnish Centre serves as an open international interdisciplinary innovative platform, promoting the interaction and communication among university, industry and community by combining engineering, design and business. Mr. Lu commented that innovative design concepts should be brought results, achieving the virtuous circle of production, learning and research during his visit to the incubator businesses in Sino Finnish Centre.
