On 14 May 2013, the delegation from University of Leicester visited the School of Foreign Languages (SFL), Tongji University. Members include Professor Martin Halliwell, Head of the School of English, Dr Mark Rawlinson, Academic Director of the College of Arts, Humanities and Law, Dr Claire Yi-Yi Shih and Dr Horace Yeung. Prof. Li Yang, Associate Prof. Dong Xiu, Deputy Deans of SFL and Associate Prof. Wei Yaozhang, Head of English Department, on behalf of SFL, warmly welcomed the delegation.
Two sides had reviewed the dual Master program in English and discussed further exchange programs among students and faculty and scientific cooperation and research. Both have confidence in building long term partnership.
After the meeting, Dr Claire Yi-Yi Shih delivered a lecture on ‘Behind the Mind: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Translation’, she overviewed the research of translation process, introduced common research instruments, discussed ‘Think-aloud’ sample analysis and the further research in the field of translation. She also introduced four useful research tools in translation, which were ‘Think-aloud protocol’, ‘Key-logging’, ‘Screen recording’ and ‘Eye-tracking’. The lecture went to a successful conclusion in warm applause.
