On May 8, Prof. Wolfgang Tiefensee, former Minister for Traffic and Urban Development of Germany visits Tongji University. Prof. Wu Jiang, Vice President of Tongji University, hosted the bilateral meeting. Prof. Li Fengting , Vice Dean of UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (IESD), Ms. Martina from CDHK, Mr. Harald from CDHK attended this meeting.
Prof. Wu Jiang warmly welcomed the visit of Prof. Wolfgang Tiefensee and introduced Tongji University's history, dominant disciplines as well as the process of building sustainable university. He pointed out that the cooperation and exchange between Tongji and German has a long history. UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (IESD), a university-wide platform of education for sustainable development, plays an important role in educating youth, influencing policy-making and promoting sustainable philosophy.Then the two sides discussed hot issues in current global environment and energy field. All countries are facing pressure on the environment in development process .Cooperation is a forever theme.
Prof. Wolfgang Tiefensee then gave Tongji students a speech entitled The Transformation of the Energy System in Germany. Prof. Wolfgang began with an overview of energy policy in Germany. He then introduced the driving force and key factors of energy policy transformation, the energy policy goals and challenges, and how to develop a new regulatory framework for the energy market. Finally, he called for that solutions do not just need pioneers, they also need partners. Let us cooperate and set out on this uncertain yet promising path together.
