On the afternoon of 16 April, Mr.Nick Nuttall, UNEP Spokesperson and UNEP Director for Communications and Public Information delivered a public lecture named "Environmentalism in the 21st Century"in Tongji University. It attracted more than 100 students from different disciplines to attend. Mr.Nick Nuttall talked about the severe environmental problems that we are facing from the perspectives of population, science, economy, etc. He also explained the evolution of the meaning of environmentalism. His speech aroused a heated discussion during the Q&A session.

Mr. Nick Nuttall also visited IESD office and listened to the presentation of IESD introduction. Dr. Wang Xin, Vice Dean of IESD introduced the history of Tongji University and IESD, especially the two flagship events named 2013 International Student Conference on Environment and Sustainability and 2013 Asia-Pacific Leadership Programme on Environment and Sustainable Development. Mr. Nick Nuttall highly appraised on Tongji's tremendous efforts in building the Sustainable University and promoting the environment-friendly concept. Afterwards, Prof. Wu Jiang, Vice President of Tongji and Dean of IESD met Mr. Nick Nuttall and discussed on how to further reinforce the mutual cooperation between Tongji and UNEP. Vice Dean of IESD Prof. Li Fengting and Dr.Wang Xin also attended the meeting. In Februray, Prof. Li Fengting and Mr. Nick Nutuall signed Agreement on Translation and Publication so as to promote the concept of environment and sustainable development.

On the morning of 26 April, with the accompany of Prof. Li Fengting, Vice Dean of IESD, Mr. Nick Nuttall met with Mr. Chen Jingxi, Deputy Director of Shanghai Municipal Information Office, Ms. Fang Fang, Deputy Director of Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau and had a heated discussion regarding the cooperation on promoting anti-poaching initiative and creating more opporunities for Chinese youth to join the environmental activities.
