Buddy Program between SEM’s Chinese and International Students

February 27, 2013

On January 24th, 2013, SEM held the Buddy Program Party between Chinese and newly-registered foreign exchange students at Student Activity Center. The International Students Union played a major role in organizing this activity, which attracted many students.

During this activity, Chinese students hosted some interesting games, such as musical chairs. Also, they prepared various kinds of foods and beverages like pizzas, milk tea, and fruit juice, which created friendly communication atmosphere for the participants. Since the activity was held coincidently on the Chinese Lantern Festival, the organizers prepared rice dumplings with sweet sesame stuffing in order to introduce this special festival to the foreign students. A German student said that he loves Chinese festival very much; Chinese student’s introduction has helped him further understand the custom of Chinese Lantern Festival. All the students enjoyed the talk and happy hours, with the game and music still going on at the same time. One of the foreign students also proposed to serve as the moderator, which made the foreign students feel at home.

Through this fellowship activity, many Chinese and foreign students have become friends, and they exchanged the contact details with each other. Many students cherished this opportunity to communicate with foreign exchange students.

Buddy program helps creates excellent cultural exchange and communication platform for Chinese and foreign students. It could not only help foreign students to deepen their understandings about Chinese culture, and but also provide chances for Chinese students to know about foreign custom. This event will be held regularly in order to help promote friendships among Chinese and foreign students.
