A series of RUB-Days activities was held in Tongji University from October 18th to 19th. Prof. Weiler, Rector of the Ruhr-University Bochum, together with his delegation of more than 20 people, visited Tongji and took part in the activities.
The grand opening ceremony of RUB-Days was held in Room-410 in the Zonghe-Building on the morning of October 18th. About a hundred of people attended the ceremony, including President Pei Gang, Vice President Dong Qi, Assistant President Yu Zhuoping as well as teachers and students from Tongji.
The performance video of RUB’s school song was played on the spot as a prelude of the opening ceremony, followed by the school song of Tongji University by its chorus. Then President Pei Gang, Rector Weiler and Prof. Massberg, former Rector of RUB made speeches, in which, both sides reviewed the cooperation and achievement in the past 30 years, and suggested that they would strengthen their existing cooperation and explore new fields for cooperation. Later on, President Pei and President Weiler issued awards for students who won the competition of “computer simulation for business administration”. As the last link of the ceremony, Rector Weiler gave a splendid report to our student, welcoming them to pursue further study in RUB.
President Pei and Rector Weiler cut the ribbon for the “RUB-Tongji Cooperation Exhibition”, which introduced bilateral communication and cooperation since 1980s after the ceremony.
Professors in the RUB delegation covered five fields, including natural science, engineering, language and culture, economic management, and doctor education. They respectively talked with Tongji’s related professors, and exchanged opinions about developing tendency and cooperation prospects in these fields.
Besides academic exchange, rich and colorful cultural exchange activities were also held in the RUB-Days. The “German Culture Week of Bochum’s Food” was held on Siping and Jiading Campus during October 17th and 19th, providing students authentic German food made by chefs from the Studenten werk in Ruhr. What’s more, the two universities held a friendly football match on the artificial lawn ground on the afternoon of October 18th. Vice President Jiang Bo showed up and kicked the game off. After the game, all the players received a certificate souvenir signed by the two presidents.
