President Fohrmann of the University of Bonn visits Tongji University

On the morning of September 19th, President Pei Gang met with a delegation of 10 people led by the president of the University of Bonn, and Professor Jürgen Fohrmann,.

In the meeting, President Pei said that, nowadays, we were confronted with many problems concerning sustainable development, such as energy shortage and climate change, and the research of solutions to these problems was one of the main tasks of first-rate universities in the future. Regarding sustainable development as its core concept, Tongji University makes cultivating talents with this concept as one of its main tasks. Therefore, it is necessary for us to strengthen our development in disciplines such as humanities and social science, which are the advantages of the University of Bonn. President Pei hoped that cooperation of the two universities could develop gradually from basic student exchange to high-end forms such as joint scientific research, double degree, and Sino-German Graduate School, which President Fohrmann agreed. After mutual introduction and discussion of the delegations, the two sides initially decided to make political sociology, natural science, and culture and language their key cooperation fields.

Vice President Dong Qi met with the delegation of the University of Bonn in the Sino-German College for Graduate Studies (CDHK) before the meeting. President Dong introduced Tongji University’s cooperation strategy toward Germany and the general situation of the newly founded Sino-German University at Tongji University (CDH), which laid a sound foundation for the meeting later on.
