On June 15th, the Exhibition New Chinese Design and Innovation inaugurated at Triennale Design Museum of Milan, Italy. The Exhibition is co-organized by China-Italy Design and Innovation Center (CIDIC) under the patronage of Ministry of Science and Technology of P.R. China and Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research. Authorities and representatives from Chinese and Italian governments, universities and enterprises attended the inauguration. On behalf of Tongji University and CIDIC, Vice President Prof. Fang Shouen participated in the opening ceremony.

The exhibition showcases Chinese applications and creative potential in the fields of design, technology and innovation. As an international service platform, CIDIC plays an important role in promoting Sino-Italian cooperation in talent training, transfer of scientific research and innovative capability of enterprises. Mr. Chen Linhao, Deputy Director-General of Department of International Cooperation of Ministry of Science and Technology of P.R. China, Mr. Yin Jun, Science Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Italy, Mr. Davide Giacalone, President Agency for the Promotion of Technologies for Innovation and Mr. Massimiliano Perri, Officer Activity Planning Department of Milan World Expo Organizing Committee and leaders from China and Italy highly appraised the exhibition and cherished high expectation of CIDIC future development.

Vice President Fang commented in his speech that, CIDIC has already accomplished great achievements since its founding in April 2011, and Sino-Italian Campus, as an important window and platform for Industry- University-Research cooperation between two countries, plays a vital role in the exchanges and cooperation with Italian government, universities and enterprises.

The subject of the Exhibition is Bridge. Prof. Tan Jingyi of Tongji University is appointed as the General Designer and Tongji University curated the part “dialogue with Expo” in the exhibition, which showcases the digital version of Along the Riverside during Qingming Festival designed by Mr. Yu Zheng, Design Director of Crystal CG graduated from Tongji University, and design works by Tongji students from Sino-Italian Design Master Double Degree Program and College of Design and Innovation.

At 14:00 on June 15th, B2B meetings between Chinese and Italian companies started to further promote and develop the abutment between enterprises in design and innovation industry. The exhibition will continue to July 15th. After the Exhibition, both China and Italy will push forward and implement the cooperation between design innovation enterprises and work on the training of design talents and designer through two countries’ universities cooperation, China-Italy Innovation and Design Alliance (CIIDA) and Tongji Sino-Italian Strategic Advisory Board and so on.
