Recently, the Department for International Cooperation and Exchange of Chinese Ministry of Education (MoE) has brought the German Research Centre of Tongji University into the support program for bases of research of countries and regions.

Tongji, with its numerous cooperation projects with Germany, and long history and solid foundation of German Research, will use the establishment of the new centre as a good opportunity to integrate the German research resources and to build the research teams, in order to raise the research level and to reach a series of influential research results. The Centre will also try to expand new road in the areas of databank building, discipline development, personnel training and social services. The medium to long term objective is to build the centre on the one hand to an influential think tank with professional advantages and on the other hand to a key national base of MoE at home and abroad for humanity and social sciences.

It is reported that the MoE started this support program for the purpose of implementing the National Education Planning Framework and of serving the national foreign affairs strategy, opening the education for overseas students in a bigger scale.
