On November 17th, Prof. Wu Zhiqiang, Vice President of Tongji University met with Mr. Olaf Scholz, First Mayor of Hamburg, and his delegation of about 50 people at the Shanghai No 1 International Design Plaza. Prof. Dr. Li Ligui, Council Chairman of School of Foreign Languages, Dr. Jari Grosse-Ruyken, Vice Dean of Sino-German College for Graduate Studies (CDHK), and Prof. Li Lezeng, Vice Director of German Academic Centre attended the meeting.

Vice President Wu Zhiqiang first introduced the history of Tongji University and underlined Tongji’s cooperative relationship with Germany. Then Prof. Wu gave an introduction to the design philosophy of “sustainable campus” which is the new key strategy of Tongji’s strategic development and the specific measures that have been taken in this field. Mr. Scholz agreed with the idea and hoped cooperation between Tongji and Hamburg University could be strengthened in the fields of renewable energy. After the meeting, Mr. Scholz held a lecture titled the Financial Crisis in Europe 2009 and its Consequences to Tongji students who responded enthusiastically.
