On September 8th, Vice President Prof. Wu Zhiqiang met Deputy Mayor of Helsinki, Tuula Haatainen in Run Run Shaw Building. Mayor Haatainen, responsible for Education, Culture and Human Resources, visited Shanghai and Tongji University to understand higher education of China and to establish means of international cooperation for Helsinki New Central Library. Vice President Wu Zhiqiang pointed out that the university would endeavor towards more Sino-Finnish activities with more impacts by combining them with the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012. The university’s Sino-Finnish Centre has already had successful programs such as Tongji on Tracks 2011.

After the meeting, the delegation visited Tongji University Library and in the afternoon, Mayor Haatainen gave a lecture entitled Education and Culture--Our Success Factors at the Sino-Finnish Centre.
