Rt Hon Jim Bolger, Chairman of the University Board of Waikato and former Prime Minister of New Zealand, Prof. Roy Crawford, president of the University of Waikato, Prof. Ed Weymes, vice-president of the University of Waikato, and deans from various schools, visited Tongji on May 24th. Vice-president Chen Xiaolong met with Rt Hon Jim Bolger and the delegation. The two sides introduced their research achievements, academic characteristics, and negotiated the further cooperation projects in future.
Mr. Hon Jim Bolger delivered a speech “Environmentally sustainable development in New Zealand – from Waikato perspective” for the Master Forum to our students in the Comprehensive Building. He detailed New Zealand’s attitude to sustainable development and the measures taken in population, urbanization, climate change, energy, policy, and etc.
Afterwards, Vice-president Chen Xiaolong and people in charge from Tongji’s Technology Department, and the College of Environmental Science and Engineering talked with the 3 deans from the Engineering School and the School of Computer Engineering of the University of Waikato. The two sides said that they would take further cooperation in the fields of eco-city, urban planning, material science, marine science and other areas in the future.
