On Sept. 23rd, the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Science (IVA) held a conference on which 6 new members were elected, including 3 Swedes and 3 Chinese. Prof. Wu Zhiqiang, the assistant president of Tongji University, was one of newly elected members.
Prof. Wu Zhiqiang(1960- ) is the Director of the School of Design & Innovation in Tongji University. He received his PhD from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany, in 1996. Being the Chief Planner of World Expo 2010 Shanghai China and the permanent member of the UNESCO-UIA World Architectural Education Council, Prof. Wu Zhiqiang has contributed enormously to the sustainable urban-planning in China. He has devoted to promote education and research cooperation and exchange between China and Sweden, such as the cooperation with IVA and CTH.
As one of the oldest Academies of Engineering Science in the world, the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Science was established in 1919. It has 867 Swedish members and 266 non-Swedes members. The other elected new members of IVA include Christel Armstrong Darvik, Sten Bergström, Eva Nygren , Zhou Ji, the President of Chinese Academy of Engineer and Gu Binglin, the Principal of Tsinghua University.
