On August 9th, the School of Transportation Engineering held the Sino-American Transportation Safety Symposium, 14 experts and scholars from China and U.S. in the field of transportation engineering attended the symposium, and discussed about the transportation safety and master degree student training programme.
Prof. Michael Walton, from the University of Texas at Austin, gave a presentation entitled “The Connected Vehicle and Guideway: Tomorrow’s Transportation System”. Prof. Walton is the academician of American Academy of Engineering, who has served as the chairman of U.S. Transportation Research Board, and is the founder of several U.S. national transportation organizations (such as ITE, ASCE). Prof. Walton introduced the latest research and future development direction of the U.S. transportation engineering. Then, seven experts and scholars from U.S. University of Washington, University of South Florida, University of Cincinnati, University of Akron, Appalachian Regional Commission, Chinese Science Academy of General Motors and Shanghai Jiaotong University, as well as Prof. Yang Dongyuan, Prof. Yang Xiaoguang, Prof. Lin Hangfei, and Prof. Li Keping, from our School of Transportation Engineering, presented their research in the field of transportation safety, and raised many constructive and forward-looking recommendations for improving Chinese transportation safety.
The symposium set up seminars on the topic of “Driving Simulator Construction and Application Prospect in Tongji University” and “Transportation Master Degree Student Training”.
