Christian Wulff, Honorary Doctorate of Tongji University, Elected Germany's New Federal President

On 30th June 2010 (Berlin time), the Federal Convention elected Christian Wulff, the tenth President of the Federal Republic of Germany in the third ballot. Wulff won 625 votes in the third ballot after failing to get an absolute majority in the first two secret ballots of the Federal Assembly.

On 8th May 2007, during the centennial anniversary of Tongji University, Mr. Christian Wulff visited Tongji and was awarded as honorary doctorate of Tongji University for his contribution to the Sino-German educational and cultural cooperation. Conferred by former President Wan Gang, he became the 5th Honorary Doctorate of our University.

On 9th May 2005, Christian Wulff, state premier in Lower Saxony, led a 70-people German delegation from the universities and enterprises to visit Jiading Campus of Tongji. In the witness of Wulff and many guests from Lower Saxony, four international cooperative agreements were signed, including the Agreement on Cooperation between Tongji University and Clausthal TU, the Cooperative Agreement on International Foundation Programs of both universities, the Agreement on the Exchange Project between Tongji and Hanover Medical University for the Construction of Shanghai Sino-German Friendship Hospital (now: Shanghai Tongji Paulun Hospital), the Agreement on Cooperation in Primary Research of Road Traffic Accidents in China between the School of Automobile Engineering of Tongji, Volkswagen Group Research Institute and Volkswagen Beijing Office. Mr. Wulff drove the “Chaoyue II”, newly developed by Tongji New Energy Research Institute around the Jiading Campus before the formal activities.

Mr. Christian Wulff is an old friend of Tongji University. Served as State Premier in Lower Saxony in 2003, Mr. Wulff has been actively promoting the cooperation and exchange of universities and enterprises in Lower Saxony with Tongji.
