(From Spain) Tongji Solar Bamboo House was highlighted in the opening ceremony of the competition

June 13, 2010

The opening ceremony of “Europe Solar Decathlon Competition 2010” was held on the morning of Jun 17. According to the competition organizing committee, three universities’ projects would be introduced and highlighted in the event. Tongji’s project for the competition --- Solar Bamboo House would be one of them.

Tongji Solar Bamboo House cleverly combines the elements of classical Chinese architecture with solar photovoltaic technology. The skill of “Revering Tiles” in Chinese traditional architecture is applied to integrate a number of passive or active architecture energy saving technology. For example, the exterior wall and interior surface are furnished with eco-bamboo. New high-performance vacuum insulation plates, together with vacuum + hollow three-layer glass windows with the highest standards of thermal insulation, are installed in the wall. Phase change material on the interior wall surface is helpful to reduce the indoor temperature fluctuation. Heat dissipation, heat recycling or cooling system, is installed at the back of the solar photovoltaic module, integrating the solar hot water collector and heat pump air conditioning into the multi-heat-resource energy-saving system. Furthermore, it also supports information intelligent control. It is estimated that the amount of energy the solar bamboo house can produce is nearly three times as much as its consumption. The excess energy can be transported into the city grid.

During the establishing process, besides the Spanish “National Newspaper” and Spanish National Television covered our solar bamboo house, “People’s Daily” in the Spanish press also made exclusive interview and report on it.
