“Celebration for Sino-German Year of Science and Education 2009/2010” Held on Jiading Campus

As a major event in the Sino-German Year of Science and Education 2009/2010, "Sino-German electro-mobility Forum" was started on June 2nd in the Clean Energy Automotive Engineering Center on Jiading Campus of Tongji University. Wan Gang, Vice Chairman of CPPCC, Minister of MOST, and Annette Schavan, Minister of BMBF, attended the meeting and made the speech.On behalf of MOST and BMBF, they together unveiled for the "Sino-German Joint Research Centre for electric vehicles" and signed "the joint statement of scientific cooperation regarding the development of electric vehicles". This celebration drew a successful conclusion for the Sino-German Year of Science and Education 2009/2010.

Chen Xi, Deputy Minister of MoE, Shen Xiaoming, Shanghai Vice Mayor and Zhou Jialun, Chairman of Tongji University Council addressed a speech. Michael Schaefer, German Ambassador in China, Ma Canrong, former Chinese Ambassador in Germany and Pei Gang, President of Tongji University also attended the celebration.

During the Forum, the government officials, the university experts and the automotive company representatives from China and Germany shared experience and expressed views on important issues for the development of electric vehicles, such as strategies and support policies of countries, R&D and industrialization of electric vehicles, university-industry cooperation and international cooperation etc.

As the first members of "Sino-German Joint Research Centre for Electric Vehicles", W. A. Herrmann, President of Technical University of Munich, representing the six German universities, signed the "Memorandum of Understanding between six German and four Chinese universities for cooperation in the field of electric vehicles" together with Pei Gang, President of Tongji University, representing the four Chinese universities. Both sides will further strengthen the cooperation in research and development of electric vehicles and in high-level personnel training within the framework of excellent engineer education.
