The United Nations Climate Change Conference, which had attracted worldwide attention, was opened in Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark on December 7th. 14 Tongji students went to the conference in two groups, among whom 4 French exchange students from Economics and Management College and 2 girls from College of Environmental Science would act as observers of the conference. They would exchange the research achievements on combating climate change and carbon emissions reduction Tongji University had obtained these years, and expressed the students’ concerns and ideas about this important global problem. Led by Prof. Li Fengting from College of Environmental Science, the other 8 students would attend theSustainable Developing Campussub-forum. As the only representative team from China in this sub-forum, they would display Tongji’s successful practices in constructing green campus.
In the all-women observer mission, 4 French girls who came from Unis terre University were now studying at Tongji Economics and Management College as exchange students, and the other two students were Huang Jingshui and Li Minxia from College of Environmental Science. Li Minxia said that it was her great honor to be an observer in this global conference as a Chinese university student. A month ago, after they were informed of the news, they began to do preparatory works. They collected and sorted related data, held meetings every week to exchange information and ideas, and launched investigations about climate change outside the university.
Members of the student representative team were 1 undergraduate student, 4 postgraduate students and 3 doctoral students from Tongji College of Environmental Science, College Mechanical Engineering, College of Economics and Management, and College of Ocean Science. Cao Xiaojing, a postgraduate student form College of Environmental Science said that they would attend the conference upon the invitation of Yale University and University of Copenhagen. During theSustainable Developing Campussub-forum on December 13thand 14th, they would display Tongji’s achievements in constructing resource-efficient campus in the forms of posters and openly exchange and at the same time learned the successful experiences of the other universities.
