On October 24th, 2009 Pujiang Innovation Forum, with the major focus on Economic Globalization and innovation, opened in Dongjiao Guest State Hotel. The forum, sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Municipal Government of Shanghai, undertaken by Tongji University and Shanghai Zhangjiang (Group) Co., Ltd., is a high level international forum dedicated to academic research on forward-looking, strategic innovation theory and policy. Wan Gang, Vice Chairman of CPPCC and China's Minister of Science and Technology, Xu Guanhua, President of Institute of Technology and Innovation Management, Han Zheng, Mayor of Shanghai, Zhou Jialun, Chairman of Tongji University Council and Pei Gang, President of Tongji University, together with other high-ranking official and guests attended the forum.
Building off from the success of the first Pujiang Innovation Forum, this year’s event brought together about 54 well-known experts, scholars and government officials from around the world to conduct wide and in-depth discussions on hot, thorny and key issues of building innovation-oriented countries, such as Financial Crisis and New Patterns of Global Competition, Innovation of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises under the Economic Fluctuation, Globalization of Research and Development and its Influence, Typical Experience of the Technological Breakthrough in Industries of Newly-rising Industrialized Countries as well as Measures to Boost Development through Innovation. The key participating speakers included Professor Wu Jinglian, renowned economist and researcher of the Research Center of the State Council, and Mr. Liu Chuanzhi, Chairman of the Board of Legend Group Corporation and American economist William Engdahl. On the afternoon of October 25th, Professor Zhou Jialun presided over the first feature forum – Drive the Future through Technological Innovation.
