On the evening of October 24th (American time), President Pei Gang met with Tongji University Alumni Association of America (TJUAAA) in New York after the completion of the training session in Yale University. The New York Branch of TJUAAA held a welcome ceremony for President Pei's visit. On behalf of Tongji alumni in America, Xu Jun extended warm welcome to President Pei Gang's visit and expressed the deep feeling towards the alma mater. Sponsored by alumnus Wang Weihe and presided over by Jin Weihua who is in charge of TJUAAA, this event gathered over 50 alumni to talk with President Pei Gang.

In the meeting, President Pei Gang delivered greetings from Tongji University to the oversea alumni and elaborated on the opportunities and challenges faced by Tongji University especially the Second Centennial Development Strategy. He pointed out the great importance of talents and expressed the school’s determination to attract as many talents as possible to develop Tongji into a world famous university. He reiterated the close relation between Tongji and the alumni, as the school motto says, “people in the same boat pull together”. Tongji University will make every effort to perfect the management of Tongji Alumni Association and Education Development Foundation for better service to alumni around the world in hope that alumni will continue to support the development of Tongji.

During President Pei Gang's stay in America, Liao Zhenliang, professor of College of Environmental Science and Engineering and its former professor Wang Ronghe, Zhou Xiaolei from Organization Department, Ph.D Candidate Wang Jikun of Medical School paid a visit to President Pei in Yale University on behalf of Tongji alumni as well as the teachers and students studying in America.
