Pei Gang Met with Dr. Schavan, Minister of BMBF

On October 8th, the University President Pei Gang had breakfast with Dr. Schavan, Minister of German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), and talked about some commonly concerned issues of the two sides.

Dr. Schavan warmly welcomed Pei Gang and wished great success to Tongji Forum that would be held in Berlin. She pointed out Tongji’s important part and contribution in educational and scientific exchange and cooperation between Germany and China. On behalf of BMBF, she promised to provide support for Tongji University’s development and overseas exchange as ever.

Pei Gang expressed thanks to Dr. Schavan for her concern and support to Tongji. He said that Tongji would keep the tradition of exchange with German part and reinforce cooperation between the two sides. With the support from BMBF, Tongji would develop more cooperation with German side in the fields of electric automobile, climate warming and intelligent city, etc.

Prof. Thies, Secretary-General of German Federal-State Ministers of Culture and Education Joint Conference, Dr. Rieke, Department Chief of BMBF, Jiang Feng, Minister-Counselor of Education Department, Chinese Embassy in Germany and Prof. Li Zhenyu, Director of Tongji Foreign Affairs Office were present at the meeting. The two sides also discussed about the closing ceremony of Sino-German Year of Education and Research.
