After four years’ construction, Shanghai Ground Vehicles Wind Tunnel Center—the first vehicle wind tunnel in China built by Tongji University was completed on September 19thin Jiading Campus. As a technical platform for public service vehicles and railbound vehicles, the wind tunnel center will provide basic services for China’s independent research in automobiles and railbound vehicles industry.
Wan Gang, Vice-Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and Minister of Science and Technology, Shen Xiaoming, Deputy Mayor of Shanghai and Lin Huiqing, the Assistant Education Minister attended the ceremony and watched the demonstration of wind tunnel test.









As a key scientific and technological projects of Shanghai major industries, the wind tunnel center’s construction gained strong support from National Development and Reform Committee, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Education. The entire construction covered 21095 square meters and cost RMB 4.9 hundred million Yuan. The wind tunnel project included first aeroacoustics full scale wind tunnel, first thermal environment full scale wind tunnel in China, and a multifunctional center integrated automobile modeling, manufacturing, equipment maintenance, scientific research and management functions. As a major infrastructure, the wind tunnel center was also a signature equipment platform which marked the transformation of China’s automotive industry from manufacture to design. With the wind tunnel center tests of sedans, coaches, SUV, trucks and all kinds of vehicles and components as well as railbound vehicles can be conducted.
