Two Foreign Experts in Tongji Won White Magnolia Memorial Awards

On the occasion of the 60thanniversary of the founding of China, Foreign Affairs Office of Shanghai Municipal People's Government conferredShanghai White Magnolia Memorial Awardson 60 foreign experts in order to praise and encourage the foreign friends who had made outstanding contributions to Shanghai’s economic construction and social development. Prof. Jochen Wiedemann and Prof. Surendra Shrestha of Tongji University won this Award.

Prof. Wiedemann, chief technical consultant of Tongji Ground Transportation Wind Tunnel Center and guest professor of Sino-German College, was an internationally renowned expert of aerodynamics. He has assumed the position of director of Audi Wind Tunnel Center for many years and now director of FKFS Wind Tunnel Center. Form April 2004, Prof. Wiedemann and Tongji project team members began the functional localization and program planning work of the wind tunnel center. They helpedto organize and complete bidinviting of technological design for wind tunnel center successfully, and chosed the design consultant corporation. With Prof. Wiedemann’s help, Tongji University designed and built the 1: 15 aero-acoustic wind tunnel model and carried research on key technology of wind tunnel design.

Prof. Shrestha,a Consulting Professor of Tongji University and Fundraising Department Chief of UNEP, devoted himself to education and promotion of environment protection and sustainable development and promoted cooperation on sustainable development between China and other countries in Asian and Pacific regions. Prof. Shrestha offered substantial support to UNEP-Tongji IESD and strongly recommended the Institute to UN system and international organizations. He made great contribution to the development of IESD.
